Best Guitar Pick for Electric Guitar

Best Guitar Pick for Electric Guitar

Let's just skip to the part where I tell you my very biased opinion.  The Dragon's Heart Guitar Pick is the best guitar pick period.  I am primarily an electric player and I spent over three years developing the Dragon's Heart.  I did this with one goal in mind; create the single greatest pick that I have ever played with and, that is exactly what I have done.  I have tried just about everything out there and I still try anything new that I come across but, the Dragon's Heart is still the one I use every day, for every guitar I play, and every style of music I play.

Best Guitar Picks For Acoustic

Anyone who knows me or has read my blog knows at least two things by now.  The first is that I believe the Dragon's Heart Guitar Pick is the best guitar pick hands down.  The second is that I also believe there truly is no such thing as "the best" for everyone.  Every player has to make the decision for themselves as to what gear is the best for them.  This certainly includes their choice of pick, and I've said it over and over that you must try everything to know what is best for you.

All that being said, let look at the best guitar pick for the acoustic guitar.

Best Grip Guitar Picks

This one is going to be a quick read and probably one of the best articles I have written so far.

THE ISSUE(S) WITH GRIP

This is big for all of us.  It is not just the concern of dropping the pick but also keeping it in place where you want it while you are playing.  We have all played this game and there many picks out there marketing to this exact dilemma.  I have seen a lot of approaches to mitigating this problem.  Everything from "special" materials to textured surfaces.  Even if there these qualities add to grip, there are still limited options as to the styles of pick available with these advantages.  Further, the claims of improved grip can be greatly exaggerated, especially when things like sweat come into play.

Best Guitar Pick for Metal

Best Guitar Pick for Metal

The best guitar pick for metal.

I have only done a few articles analyzing what makes a guitar pick ideal for certain styles of play -- strummingshreddingjazz, etc. -- and I'm sure that I will end up writing a few more.  That being said, let's look at what the style of music known as metal is and what it demands from the player.

When I think metal, I think Metallica.  There are ,though, so many worth mentioning like Pantera, Black Sabbath, and Iron Maiden to name a few, but Metallica is the first band that comes to mind.  As it so happens, their music is amongst the first I learned to play.  Fade to Black is song I "cut my teeth" on with respect learning lead guitar.  I think I just dated myself.  Though I certainly wouldn't claim that they were the first metal band, they certainly are one of the all time greats and their music helped to define and shape this genre.

Best Guitar Pick for Shredding

Best Guitar Pick for Shredding

In the beginning

This article traces back to very birth of the endeavor that lead me to the design and production of the Dragon's Heart.  At the time I had been playing for almost 15 years and while I was pretty good, my skill had reached a plateau.  I wanted to progress as player and, probably more so, I wanted to be able to "shred".  I had the right guitars for the job but my pick just wasn't giving me what I needed so I started to branch out.  Like a lot of players, I started out with a basic medium gauge celluloid pick.  As my skill progressed over those 15 years, I continuously invested in better guitars, better amps, and more pedals.  Never once did I really consider that I might need a better pick.  I won't bore you with the back story but a sales rep from a local shop suggested that I try a different pick and my skill began progressing immediately.  Amazed at how much impact my choice of pick had on my skill I started purchasing every pick variation I could find.

Best Guitar Pick for Strumming

WHAT IS STRUMMING?

Strumming is a simple, core concept of playing almost any stringed instrument.  Even people with no idea of how play have at least some idea of what this is.  This concept is so simple and basic it is almost doesn't warrant a written definition.  However, if we are to analyze it for the sake of choosing the best tool for the job, we must define it.  I would define strumming as the action of mechanically displacing all the desired strings of any particular stringed musical instrument simultaneously for the purose of creating a polyphonic collection of harmonious  tones.  To put it more plainly, it's the way we play chords.
